Commonly Asked Questions
Why Do You Not Offer Recycling Everywhere?
Many of Midsouth's customers are not willing to pay for the additional service. If we do not have a sufficient recycling customer base to construct a route, recycling is not a profitable venture for our business.
How Many Customers Must Sign Up To Start A Recycling Route?
This is somewhat of a moving target. However, at a minimum, Midsouth requires that a sufficient number of customers sign up to justify a driver collecting recylclabes for (1) complete route day. This would amount to roughly 150 customers within a centralized aea.
What types of recyclables do you collect?
Midsouth collects ALL recyclables across its different service areas. However, the types of recyclables that Midsouth is able to collect in your local area largely depends on the capabilities of the local Material Recovery Facility (MRF):
Midsouth collects a variety of recyclables across our service areas. However, the specific items we can accept in your local area depend entirely on the capabilities of the local Material Recovery Facility (MRF) we partner with.
1. Some MRFs utilize Single-Stream Recycling: This is the most convenient method for customers. All accepted recyclables (paper, plastic, metal) are placed "mixed" into one single bin for collection. The MRF uses advanced sorting technology to separate the materials at their facility.
2. Other MRFs utilize Multi-Stream Recycling: This requires customers to "source-separate" their materials. In these areas, you may be required to place paper/cardboard in one bin and plastic/metal/glass in another. This reduces contamination and is often required by smaller or specialized processing facilities.
Why Does Midsouth Utilize Separate Trucks For Trash and Recycling?
Recyclable materials are only recycled absent of contamination.
Contamination is any form of foreign substance that degrades the quality of the recyclable material, or that potentially hinders the sorting and processing of the materials.
Mixing the recyclables with household waste, aka "Municipal Solid Waste" (MSW), is the primary source of recyclables contamination, and results in the recyclable materials not actually being recycled. Instead, the materials are sent to the landfill when contaminated.
Are There Any Recyclables That Midsouth Does Not Accept?
Midsouth does not recycle any hazardous materials such as paint, batteries, oil, medical / bio-waste, etcetera.
Where Does Midsouth Currently Offer Recycling Services?
